A fun way to explore the city

This was my second time exploring a city on a bike, and I really enjoyed it. The whole experience was great, seeing the canals and riding through Jordaan and De Pijp was amazing. I also never realized how beautiful the Rijksmuseum is up close. The route was well-planned, and our guide made sure everyone felt included. Overall, this is a great tour for exploring Amsterdam city in a more unique way!

Sebastian

One of the best tours in Amsterdam

The whole tour was well thought out and covered all the most important landmarks. I didn’t expect much from the Western Islands, but they turned out to be my favorite part because of how quiet they were. Our guide was great and even shared some stories about the Red Light District. The break in Vondelpark was a nice touch - it felt so relaxing to rest while surrounded by nature. If you’re in Amsterdam, check out this tour.

DESCRIPTION

Bike Tour Amsterdam

EXPLORE AMSTERDAM’S HIDDEN TREASURES

Start your journey by picking up your bike and meeting your guide. The tour will begin near Central Station, where you’ll set off to the Western Islands, a peaceful, lesser-known area with 17th-century warehouses and drawbridges. These islands were once a busy port, but today, they are a haven for artists. As you pass by the many art galleries and small shops, your guide will talk about the area’s maritime history, giving you a glimpse into Amsterdam’s transformation.

DISCOVER JORDAAN AND WESTERKERK

After that, you'll ride your bike through the trendy Jordaan district, which is known for its charming old buildings, narrow streets, and cozy cafes. Your guide will talk about how Jordaan was once home to the working class but is now one of Amsterdam's most desirable neighborhoods. See the Westerkerk, Amsterdam's tallest church at 279 feet (85 meters), and hear about its connection to Anne Frank, who mentioned it in her diary. If you’re planning to visit the museum afterward, don’t forget to book your Anne Frank House ticket in advance, since time slots are limited and often sell out quickly. Your group will then move to De Negen Straatjes, often referred to as "The Nine Streets", a network of little streets lined with unique stores and boutiques.

RELAX IN THE VONDELPARK

After passing the lively Leidse Square, take a break amongst the trees of Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s largest park spread across 47 hectares of greenery. Relax by the ponds and recharge before continuing the bike tour. The next stop will be Museumplein, home to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum. It’s one of the city’s most visited areas, perfect for history and art lovers.

VIBRANT STREETS, TIMELESS BRIDGES

Continue to De Pijp, a vibrant neighborhood which is known for its multicultural atmosphere, and the Albert Cuyp Market, where you can find many traditional Dutch snacks. Cross the famous Magere Brug, or “Skinny Bridge”, a wooden drawbridge over the Amstel River. The last stop of the Bike Tour Amsterdam will be at Het Scheepvaartmuseum, where you’ll see a replica of a Dutch East India Company ship.

Interesting facts about Amsterdam

Westerkerk’s bells

Built in the early 17th century, the Westerkerk is home to one of Amsterdam's oldest bell sets. These bells still ring out today to signal anything from citywide festivals to royal births.

The hidden architecture of Museumplein

In addition to being the home to famous museums, the Museumplein sits on top of a sizable underground parking garage. The garage was built to accommodate the growing number of city visitors while preserving the area's historical look.

Vondelpark’s parakeet mystery

Approximately 4,000 green parakeets can be found in Vondelpark, which is very unusual for northern Europe. According to legend, they were either freed by a woman or managed to escape from a truck that crashed.

Purposefully narrow houses

The narrow homes near Amsterdam's canals, such as those in Jordaan, were purposefully constructed to reduce property taxes, which were based on width during the 17th century. This unique architecture is best appreciated from the water, so be sure to book a Canal Cruise Amsterdam as its one of the must do experiences in the city and offers the perfect view of these historic canal houses from a whole new perspective.
